Heading to Key West!

We left Tupelo on Sunday, January 15th, at 7:00 a.m. with Danny and Marie Stevens, D.W. and Jane Hopkins, Jack and Sharon Martin, Bennie and Laura Hankins, Bo Alexander and Jim Hawkins.

We stopped for lunch at Steak 'n Shake in Prattville, AL and we were on our way again.  We stopped in Perry, FL for the night at a Hampton Inn and had dinner at Mama's Family Italian Restaurant.  It was a long day of driving.

The next day, after breakfast at the hotel, we drove to the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala for our first stop.

Off to a good start...at least for the guys anyway!  It was a beautiful day so the women sat outside on a picnic table and enjoyed the weather!  We had lunch at Sonny's BBQ in Ocala and it was back on the road to Bonita Springs for the night where we checked into the Comfort Inn.  We had dinner at Mel's Diner, a cute old fashioned diner.

A stop at Culver's for a turtle sundae and called it another day.

The next day we drove down the western coast of Florida, through Naples, and on to Ochoppe, where we stopped at the smallest post office in the United States.  I thought the one in Seaside, FL was small but this one is much smaller!  You can't even walk inside this one.  There's just enough room for the postal worker to turn around while sorting the mail.  The door doesn't open; it just slides open to a walk-up window.

I mailed a couple of postcards to the kids from there.

We drove through the Everglades and then crossed over into the keys.  We stopped in Key Largo for lunch at the Fish House.  Delicious fresh seafood, though many in our group ordered hamburgers!

Guy from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives has eaten there.

We finally arrived in Key West and checked into the Key Lime Inn.

The check-in is in the big house.

We stayed in this cute little cottage.

Doug and I had stayed at the Key Lime Inn when we were in Key West a couple of years ago.  It's really convenient for walking to just about everything, especially Duvall Street where most of the "stuff" is.

We had dinner at the Blue McCaw.  Can't even remember what I ate but it was good!

More of Key West to come!

Saturday was Cameron's basketball game.

He loves playing and plays his hardest!

Courtney's Baby Shower

Before I get into my recent trip, I want to share Courtney's baby shower which was held the day before we left.  It was held just outside of Tuscaloosa, AL where Courtney lives, about a two hour drive for us.  Heather and I went together and had a nice Italian lunch before the shower.

There was an arrow theme for the shower.  The shower was given by Courtney's friends from work.  It was held at one of her friend's beautiful, practically brand new home.

A welcoming entrance.

It was a Pinterest worthy shower for sure!  Every detail was attended to!

We were greeted and told to help ourselves to the Mom-osa bar.  There was champagne and sparkling grape juice to go along with the orange juice and cranberry juice and assorted fruits for garnish.  There were also cups of party mix, donut holes and cookies

Lots of "real" food on the bar.

The cutest arrow fruit skewers!

Ham and cheese sliders, sausage balls, cheese ball and dips.

A drink bar (tea and water).

After eating, Courtney opened a ton of gifts.

This face cracked me up!

The house was absolutely beautiful as you can see in these pictures of guests.

The patio was also beautiful with this wonderful fireplace.

This sign was part of the décor but I think will hang in Duncan's room.

This is his door hanger for the hospital.

We played a couple of quick, fun games.

The "necklace" on the left says "Mimi."  It was for Karen to wear.  There were also necklaces for Kaydee, Paige and Morgan.

Family pictures.

We were given these s'mores bags as we were leaving..."Adding s'more love to our family."

We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to Duncan's arrival in early April...if not before!

We had another addition to our family on January 18th.  Julianne Renee was born to my great niece Claudia.  Claudia already has two small boys so a girl was a nice addition to the family!  Carolyn has not had a girl in her family since Claudia was born, over 30 years ago.

Here's proud grandma Kathy with Julianne.

We're anxious to meet her too!

Quick note!

Just a quick note to let you know we are home safe and sound!  We were gone 10 days, drove 2,913 miles, ate lots of good food, had beautiful warm days, but it's good to be home!  I hope to get back to blogging once I get a little caught up around here!

Celebrating Harrison's Birthday

We celebrated Harrison's birthday Thursday night with dinner at D'Casa, his choice.  It was a bit early but we will be out of town on his birthday and we wanted to celebrate before we left.

We had a really big group, 15 in all, and thankfully we had a whole room to ourselves.

Morgan and her friend Bailey are staying with us so they came too.  Ben was hiding behind Bowen!

Harrison doesn't like to be the center of attention but he did enjoy his birthday dinner!

Tomorrow Heather and I are going to Tuscaloosa for a baby shower for Courtney.  We are excited about the arrival of Duncan Matthew around the first of April.  Then Sunday morning we will be leaving for our trip to Key West.  We will be gone around 10 days but are just playing it by ear once we leave Key West.  We might go up the east coast to St. Augustine but we'll just be winging it!

I'll catch up when we return!
