Italy, Day 3

I'm back to Italy!

It was a beautiful morning.  This was the view from our room.  We slept with the windows open.  No screens and no bugs!  Also no air conditioning but it was not needed.

I took a little walk around the property of Casafrassi before breakfast.  It was a very interesting place.

We had breakfast at the hotel every morning with such an interesting array of foods.  There were always croissants and fresh fruit, a large selection of all sorts of things.

After breakfast, we loaded the bus and drove to Volterra.  We had a guided tour of the beautiful old town way up on a hill.

After getting off the bus, we immediately saw lots of motorcycles or scooters.  After seeing how narrow and hilly the streets were, this seems like the way to go!  They go by at breakneck speed so you have to watch out!

The ruins of an old Roman theater.

The views were spectacular from this high up.

My friends Jane and Linda.

It was a very interesting town and these pictures just can't do it justice.  They also can't show you just how hilly it was!

From Volterra, we went by bus to San Gimignano.

This picture gives you some idea of how hilly it was.

Another beautiful door.

We stopped in this gelato place, supposed to be the best.  The line was an indication that it was!

Bought a dishtowel at this little shop.

All the shops are very small and very specialty shops.  This was a linen shop.

It was a fun day in Volterra and San Gimignano!

Back on the bus and we were transported to Gagliole for dinner.

The first course of cannelloni was really delicious...one of the best things I ate while I was there.

This was the main course.

Chestnut cake for dessert.

Yummy!
