Springfield, IL

You've probably given up on me and I can't say that I blame you!

Doug and I drove to Springfield a couple of weeks ago and met Pat and Dave to do the Lincoln stuff there.  We arrived around lunchtime, checked into the Comfort Inn, and got the recommendation for lunch.

Lunch was at Engrained, a microbrewery not far from the hotel.  We decided to try the Ponyshoe, a smaller version of the Horseshoe.  I had read that almost every restaurant in Springfield had the Horseshoe on the menu.  We had the cheese sauce on the side and I must say that it was delicious!  It was still way too big and I left a lot on my plate!

After lunch, we headed over to the Capital.

It is a beautiful Capital building.  Construction began in 1868, completed in 1888.  Wait 'til you see the inside!

It's very ornate.  Fortunately we were able to get a quick tour which was very interesting.

It's hard to imagine something this ornate and beautiful was built all those years ago!  It's still impressive today!  As you can imagine, they are very proud of their Lincoln connection!

The Supreme Court building is directly across the street.

It was late afternoon so we didn't even try to get in there.  Not sure if they allow it anyway.

We decided to eat a light supper since we had a big lunch so opted to go to Culver's which we topped off with a turtle sundae!

No trip to Illinois is completely without a Culver's turtle sundae!
