Northeast Trip - Day 9

This was the last day of our trip and it was spent in Boston.  What an interesting city!
We started off early by walking to the beginning of the Freedom Trail.

We literally followed the "red" brick road!

Next stop was the Bunker Hill Monument.

The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought here in 1775 during the Revolutionary War.

A friend of mine had recommended that we stop at Mike's Pastry.  He said they have the best cannoli.  There happened to be an acapella group singing there.  They were quite good and entertaining.

Oh my goodness!  It was very hard to decide.

We each got a different kind of cannoli and split them four ways later that evening.

We passed by Paul Revere's house.

We saw the North Church and the statue of Paul Revere.

It's at this time that I was wishing that I had paid more attention in history class...or at least could remember what I learned in history class!

King's Chapel Church.

I love the beautiful interior of these old churches.

We saw Faneuil Hall.

Quincy Market.

The Old State House.

Granary Burial Ground where Paul Revere and Samuel Adams are buried.

There were many old cemeteries in Boston.

We had walked up an appetite so we stopped at Cheers in Quincy Market for lunch.  This isn't the Cheers site that was used in the sitcom, but still a good choice for lunch.

It was such a nice day that we ate on the patio.

We walked through beautiful areas and admired the architecture.

So different than what we see in Mississippi.

We continued to the State House.

The Old City Hall which now houses a Ruth's Chris and offices.

We did see the Cheers bar that was used for the sitcom.

It's such a tiny place but we did step inside.

We stopped to see the Boston Marathon Finish Line and where the bombings occurred.

We walked past the TD Garden where the Bruins play.  It wasn't far from our condo.

Finally back to the condo for a brief rest before going back out for dinner.

We decided to eat at the Union Oyster House, the oldest restaurant in America.  On the way we passed the Bell in Hand, America's oldest tavern which was by the restaurant.

We walked through the Holocaust Memorial.  It was very touching to read in the inscriptions inside each glass tower.

The restaurant is also right by this memorial.

By the time we walked back to the hotel, we had walked over 9 miles that day!  We later ate our cannoli and got ready for our early flight the next day.

It was such a fun trip!  We saw so many interesting things and ate some delicious food!  Fall in New England is spectacular!

Doug and I hope to get to New England one of these days.  He's never been up there and I know he would enjoy the beautiful area.

My brother-in-law Max is doing well.  They performed the above-knee amputation late yesterday.  He was already getting physical therapy this morning.  I think at this point my sister may be the one in desperate need of prayers!!  We appreciate them!
