A Day in Key West!

I've been sick for the last couple of days.  I went to the doctor yesterday because I just don't have time to fool with this!  I was swabbed for strep and flu but fortunately they came back negative.  Just a bad cold, sore throat, cough and inflamed ears.  Two hours of waiting, two shots, three medicines and I hope to be feeling better really soon!

Back to Key West.

We had breakfast pool side at the hotel.  The weather was beautiful!

We could look up and see the beautiful palm trees.

We walked a short distance to catch the Conch Train (pronounced conk).

We enjoy taking trolley tours whenever we visit a new city and even though Doug and I had done this before, it was new again!  The tour was very informative and gave a bit of the history of Key West.  We made the whole loop, then got off at Mallory Square.

There are lots of shops and restaurants in that area.

It's not uncommon to see chickens roaming around all over Key West.

They walk around like they own the place!

By this time it was time for lunch.  We had lunch at Bistro 245 overlooking the water.  There were two big cruise ships in port.

You see all kinds of street entertainers in Key West.  This guy was playing the steel drums.

We saw this famous statue in front of one of the buildings.

We had seen this statue in San Diego when we were there, but this is a traveling statue.  It had come from Royal Oak, Michigan on January 5th and is supposed to be in Key West for a year and a half.

We walked along Duval Street where most everything is including the famous Sloppy Joe's bar which is said to be a hangout for Ernest Hemmingway.

So many beautiful old homes in Key West.  Many have been turned into bed and breakfasts.

We took the Conch Train back close to our hotel and sat around the pool enjoying the day for a little while.  Then it was back on the Conch Train to Mallory Square to watch the sunset.

We got there early to get a good seat.  It gets really crowded down there.

There are street people entertaining everywhere including a sword swallower and this guy I guess was an escape artist.  He was bound in chains!

It would have been a beautiful sunset except this ship parked right in our view!

Another walk down Duval Street heading to dinner.  You just never know what you might see on Duval Street!  This gold woman would give you beads if you put a little money in her bucket.

We decided to eat at Fogerty's.

Excellent bruschetta!

Then we walked to the Key Lime Shoppe for delicious Key Lime pie!

We walked back to the hotel and called it a night after such a fun day!
