Dance Recital and Mother's Day

My weekend started off with Harrison and Cameron spending the night on Friday night.  We started off with dinner at Chick-Fil-A.  Our new CFA has only been open a week or two and none of us had been there before so the boys wanted to give it a try.  It tasted just like every other CFA and is always good.

Then Harrison asked to go to Starbucks.  He rarely asked for anything so I usually oblige him!  There were only a couple of people in the Starbucks so they enjoyed playing with Cameron's spinner while they enjoyed their cold drinks. 

Saturday morning I made a run to Connie's for blueberry donuts, a promise I had made to Harrison the last time he spent the night. 

Cameron had baseball practice so Ben picked him up before lunch and I took Harrison home so I could get ready for Emma Taylor's dance recital.  As always, she did a fabulous job in her hip-hop number!

Sam, Bowen and Harrison came to recital just as it started but left as soon as ET's number was finished!  So nice of them to come anyway!

Randy and Heather cooked a wonderful diner for us Saturday night with Randy's mother, stepfather and sister and Ben and Cameron. 

Randy fried fish and hush puppies for everyone.  It was delicious!  Key Lime pie for dessert thanks to Randy's mother Becky.  Enjoyed by all and a fun evening.

Heather and family gave me a gift certificate for a pedicure.  Ben and Cameron gave me a yard flower, a picture and biscotti scented candle.  Cameron colored the background in the picture below.

My kids know me so well!  I loved the gifts.

Ben and Cameron met us at early church Sunday morning, then we went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast.  Karen invited me to come to her house so Cameron and I drove to Red Bay and spent the afternoon.  Karen had cooked a wonderful meal of dressing and lots of sides.  Even though we weren't really hungry, we had to eat some of her delicious lunch!

Duncan was sleeping and missed the above picture but he's growing like crazy and such a happy baby most of the time!  His smiles melts your heart!

It's always good to see Karen's precious girls and grands!

We stopped at the cemetery on the way home.  Cameron had never seen where mom, dad and my grandmother are buried so I wanted to show him their graves.  I also wanted to be sure the flowers were still securely on the graves and they were.

Today is my sister Carolyn's birthday.  I'm not sure how old she is but she probably wouldn't want me to tell anyway! 

This is such a good picture of her and Max.  Max is standing on his prosthesis which is difficult for him but he's making progress.  Carolyn is a sweet person and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother!  Hope she has a wonderful birthday!

Decoration Day

It was Decoration Day on Sunday at the cemetery where my mom, dad and grandmother are buried.  After a busy graduation weekend, we drove through the cemetery on our way home.  I had put the flowers on the graves on Thursday before leaving.  One of my friend's parents are also buried in the cemetery and she said when she visited on Sunday the flowers had all blown off.  It has been very windy lately.  Fortunately she found them by looking at the pictures I had posted on Facebook and put them back for me.  It's so nice to have a good friend do that! 

Decoration Day was a big deal for Mother and she would be so proud that the tradition continues!

The cemetery was beautifully decorated, though it seems less and less every year.

Emma Taylor got braces this week.  She was very excited to finally get them on.

She is all smiles leaving the orthodontist's office but Heather said she was having some serious pain last night!

Dinner in Pickwick

We took a ride Saturday night up to Pickwick for dinner.  Three other couples caravanned with us in our old cars.  We have a group of car friends who love to find any excuse to take a ride!  It was a beautiful evening for it.

We stopped at the dam first.

It was quite windy!  You can't tell by looking at this but the water was rushing through there.  Just a couple of weeks ago two fishermen in boats were killed as they were sucked into it.  There were lots of people fishing from the banks today.

The restaurant is just down the road from the dam.  It's called the Outpost and is owned by Jay Harrison, no relation to us.

It's really a neat place and they keep adding things to it.

I thought of Jack Haye when I saw these old boat motors!

The food was really good too!

I am leaving tomorrow to go to Morgan's graduation in Mobile.  I am so proud of Morgan and glad I can join the celebration!

Happy Birthday to Cameron!

Today is Cameron's 10th birthday.  I am having a hard time believing it!  Doug and I were in Puerto Vallarta when he was born on a Hilti company trip.  He was born early and we weren't expecting him to be born while we were gone.  We flew home the next day. 

He was the scrawniest little thing when he was born and the first time we saw him he was hooked up to all kinds of tubes.  We couldn't really tell what he looked like.  He quickly caught up though and has been a ball of fire ever since!

Since he has a baseball game tonight, we celebrated his birthday last night with dinner at Mt. Fuji, his choice.  It's a fun place to celebrate birthdays!

The fun part is watching them cook.  It never gets old no matter how many times we've seen it!

Fried ice cream!  So nice of Harrison to help him eat it!  Cameron was seriously thinking about licking the plate!

We'll be cheering him on tonight at his game.  Hope he has a wonderful birthday!  Love him to pieces!!

More Baseball!

Tonight was Harrison's game.  Harrison usually plays shortstop and sometimes pitches.  Shortstop is really his position.  He made some great plays tonight and got a good hit.

Randy is working nights but was able to stop by and see most of the game.  It doesn't hurt to have a policeman on the field in case the crowd gets out of hand!

Baseball

Both Harrison and Cameron are playing baseball this year.  Both have games every Tuesday and Thursday nights at two opposite places so we have to take turns going to their games.  Cameron's game was Tuesday night.  He's playing catcher some this year, along with pitching and shortstop.  He really likes the catcher position and does a good job.

He has another game tonight but it's Harrison's turn tonight.  We had a big rain last night so hope the game isn't cancelled because of muddy fields. 

I love baseball season but it keeps us running!

Last week...

Last week was a busy week.  Our friends Sherry and Larry arrived on Monday evening and spent a few days with us.

One of those days we drove to the Mississippi Delta, about a two hour drive.  First stop was lunch at Ground Zero in Clarksdale.  Morgan Freeman is half owner and the mayor of Clarksdale owns the other half and happened to be having lunch there that day. 

It's not a fancy place!  You can tell that by looking at the front door!

The inside is pretty cool though.

We had an appetizer of fried green tomatoes and lunch was pretty good too!

Everything in this area is about the blues.  Love this sign!

We drove over to the old Hopson Plantation which is now the Shack Up Inn.  It would be quite an experience to stay there.  The old shacks where the workers lived are now "hotel" rooms.

We were able to go inside one of these shacks a few years ago and they are pretty rustic inside too!



I think we'll take a pass on staying there!

After that interesting tour, we headed to Mound Bayou to see Peter's Pottery.  This is where the pottery is made and they have a resale shop there.

It's a family owned and run business.  I love their pottery and have several pieces.

Then we drove to Marigold where McCarty Pottery is made.

Then time to head home but what a fun day!

After 12 years of driving my Jeep, it was time to get a new one.  This is the first time in over 25 years that I haven't driven a black vehicle!

I haven't driven it much yet.  Still trying to figure out all the bells and whistles!  I think the keyless start is going to take a little getting used to!  I just hope it's as good a car as my last Jeep was.  Ben has graciously taken the old Jeep off my hands!
