Another day in D.C.

Thankfully we had beautiful weather while in D.C.  It was a bit windy at times but very pleasant.  Cabs were everywhere so getting around was very easy.

Getting ready to go to an early lunch.

We had reservations at the Cactus Cantina and had a delicious Mexican lunch.

After lunch we headed over to the National Cathedral.  Services were over by this time so we were able to walk around the Cathedral.

It is truly magnificent!

We look rather small compared to the huge Cathedral!  Carolyn borrowed Amy's coat and we kidded her that she looked like Columbo!

We then headed over to the Kennedy Center where we had tickets for a play.

There were lots of things going on in different theaters.  We had tickets for Shear Madness.

Normally you can go out on the balconies that surround the Kennedy Center but the balconies were closed because of the wind but this was the view through the windows.  Washington Monument in the background.

Lincoln Memorial in this view.

We had a little time before the play started so we stopped in at KC Café for a cup of coffee and a snack.

I've never seen a wine bar in a snack shop!

Karen and I split a black and white cookie.

Almost time for the play to start.

As we were leaving the Kennedy Center, we saw people in a roped off area standing as if they were waiting for someone to enter.  I asked one of the guys waiting who they were waiting for and he said Jerry Seinfeld.  About that time this black SUV drove up and Jerry got out of it.  I started snapping pictures.  Pat and the rest of the group were standing off to the side and Pat yells, "Jerry, we love you!"  He looked at them, smiled and waved.  He was very gracious!  If you know Pat you know that's very unlike her!!  Gave us a thrill!

Looks like some other stars were coming in or had come in too!

The play was very funny!  It was in a very small theater so it was very personal.  We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Then on to Georgetown Cupcake.

It's a very small place and you can see the line is way out the door and down the street.

We each got a different flavor and shared a bite of each.

It didn't take long to devour the cupcakes!  We took a stroll around Georgetown.

Then dinner at Filomena where, again, we had reservations.  It was a very busy place!

This lady was making pasta.

This place was really decorated for Halloween!

I had the Lobster Ravioli  It was so good but I couldn't even eat half of it!  Huge portions!  I would suggest sharing if  you ever go there.

This isn't a very good picture because the light was so low but we are once again toasting Pat!

She shared her tiramisu with all of us...yum!

Another fun day of celebration!

DC Sisters Trip/Birthday Celebration

I had a wonderful birthday on Tuesday.  I got lots of cards, calls, texts and Facebook messages.  I loved hearing from each and every person who wished me a happy day!

Pat's 70th birthday was yesterday.  We celebrated it a little early with a surprise trip to DC.  Pat was already out there visiting her daughter  Amy who lives in Virginia but very close to DC.

I left on Friday afternoon, the 19th, picked up Karen in Russellville, and we went on to Huntsville to pick up Carolyn.  We then drove to Nashville, spent the night, and got an early flight out of Nashville the next morning.

We had a very smooth flight, arrived on time and all luggage arrived!  Yay!!

We sent Amy a text when we were ready to be picked up.  She told Pat they were going to a soccer game for Ethan.  She's a very good liar because she told Pat they missed their turn and she was going to have to swing through the airport to turn around.  Pat, of course, was very unsuspecting!  I was standing just off the curb at the airport in the pick-up lane.  From a distance Pat noticed my gold sweater.  I had worn it when I was at her house in September for my class reunion.  She liked it so much she went out and bought one just like it, as sisters often do!  She mentioned to Amy that "that lady" has a sweater like Judy's.  Then she said to Amy, "She kind of looks like Judy."  As they got closer she realized it was me!!  Look at her face when she realized it!

She was especially surprised to see Carolyn since it's so hard for Carolyn to get away.  We could see the relief on Amy's face that she pulled off the surprise!

Here we are...ready to get this party started!

I hope this video works because it perfectly captures Pat's face and the surprise!

We drove to the country club in Amy's neighborhood for lunch.

Lunch was delicious and the country club is beautiful.  Unfortunately there was a fire a few days after we had lunch there that did a lot of damage.

Amy lives in a beautiful gated neighborhood.  They had a couple of model homes open for touring so we stopped to check them out.

This one is over 9,000 square feet.

We tried to talk Amy into buying this one.  There's a bedroom, full bath, and small living room off to the left which would be perfect for Pat and Dave when they visit!

Posting just a few pictures of this magnificent house!

Dream kitchen!

Even the dog has a bedroom!

There were five bedrooms but the master suite is huge with a beautiful living area.

There were even Halloween treats for us to sample!

We toured another home but it paled in comparison to this one!

We then went to Amy's house...which is equally beautiful!

After a short visit, giving Pat time to pack her bag, we headed back to the airport to pick up Lisa and then head to D.C.

We checked into the Washington Court Hotel, just a few blocks from the Capitol.  It is a beautiful hotel and very convenient.  We dumped our stuff and headed to Matchbox for dinner.  Karen had reservations for us at most dinner restaurants which was so convenient.

Toasting our sister!  Happy birthday, Pat!

Karen and Amy planned our trip perfectly!  Karen even had an itinerary for each day.  This helped so much as our time in D.C. was short and no time was wasted.

Lots of fun planned for us!

Halloween was last night.  I made the traditional dinner of lasagna though this year only Ben and Cameron had dinner with us.  The other kids were busy and too old for trick-or-treating.  Sad!

Cameron wasn't going to trick-or-treat but I think he just couldn't give up getting all the free candy so he put on his baseball uniform and called it a costume!

One of my neighbors asked if Cameron wanted to trick or treat with her kids along with others.  They had a trailer with hay bales on it, pulled with a 4-wheeler.  Cameron was all about that!

He had a ball!

I guess a baseball uniform was the costume of the night!  The other two, Luke and Tyler, live on our street and are Cameron's age.  He plays with them when he comes over.

He got lots of loot!

I always make a treat bag for the kids.  I asked them if they thought they were too old for treat bags but they said they would NEVER get too old for candy!

We didn't even carve pumpkins this year...no interest by the kids.  I guess that's another thing of the past.

Emma Taylor did dress up to hand out candy at her house.

Crazy costume!

This precious Cabbage Patch Kid was my first trick-or-treater!  Her grandmother lives down the street and strolled her to our house so we could see how cute she was!

She was just adorable!  I wanted to play with her!

Cameron is with us for a couple of days while Ben is in Memphis for training.  He started a new job on Monday as a Sysco salesman and will be doing some training for a few weeks.

This post is sort of all over the place but there's much I need to catch up on before I head on another trip!
