Five years ago today was my first day of retirement. I have enjoyed every day since then! I thought my house would be immaculate and all my closets and drawers would be organized. None of that has been done. In fact, it's probably gotten worse! Doug and I were taking about it at lunch today and he mentioned all the fun things we had done and that's been higher on my priority list...and spending more time with the grands! It sure has been a fast five years!
Back to Fredericksburg...we took a short drive to Luckenbach, Texas. For some reason I thought it was a big city. There's a song written about it with Waylon, Willie and the boys! Actually the population was only 3 and it's not even a city anymore. It has become part of Fredericksburg.
The post office is the main building there. Though it's not a post office anymore, they do sell stamps and will mail postcards for you. It's a really old building and now is a small store.
You can't pass up a kissing booth!
Chickens roam freely.
This one decided to make himself a cool place in the flower bed, digging up the newly planted flowers.
There are a few other buildings on the premises.
A small music venue.
A fire pit in the shape of Texas. Texans love their state!
The dance hall.
We were told that 1,000 or more people come every Friday night to listen to different bands and dance. It's a place that's very much associated with music.
We drove back to Fredericksburg and visited many of the shops along the way.
Several wine tasting shops.
We had a little lunch at Burger Burger.
This is Doug's plate. You know I'd never order onion rings! They really know how to do burgers!
Doug found a nice place to sit while he waited outside one of the stores.
Texans are also very proud of their flag.
We saw flags all over. I wish Mississippians could be as proud of their flag!
We found bluebonnet seeds. I bought a couple of packages. I'm going to give them a try. Better to plant them in the fall it says.
This old Buick dealership has been turned into a wine tasting room. They kept all the Buick memorabilia inside.
One of our friends recommended we stop at this pie shop.
We got there not long before closing and they only had two pieces of pie left...German chocolate.
Oh my, it was good! See Doug's fork there??
By this time it was late in the day. We drove out to one of the wineries, Grape Creek. There are lots and lots of wineries in this area. Wish we had had more time to visit a few more. This one reminded me so much of Italy.
This one was beautiful. Doug and I didn't do any wine tasting but our friends did.
We drove on to Bastrop and had Mexican for dinner.
Salsa so hot we couldn't eat it but the food was good!
