You may have heard Chip and Joanna talk about going antiquing in Round Top.
We passed this cute little chapel on the outskirts of town.
We got to Round Top fairly early and stopped in a cute little coffee shop where we were told the stores didn't open until 11-ish. They had just wrapped up the biggest antique fair in the nation, so we were told, where thousands of people come into town.
It was mostly locals but they were so nice and chatted with us seeing that obviously we were outsiders!
This little garden shop was next door.
The owner was outside watering her plants and she let us come inside. It really put me in the mood to get my flowers planted!
A restaurant was next door.
Another little shop. I'm not sure what it was because it was not open and neither was the restaurant.
Next stop was Festival Concert Hall also in Round Top. Jane knew about this and wanted to see it. If you didn't know it was there, you'd never stumble upon it. It's way off the road but evidently quite well know to musicians. It was designed and built by James Dick, a concert pianist.
It's also a school for aspiring musicians. The inside is quite magnificent! It seats about 1,000 and is obviously designed with great acoustics.
This is the stage.
Even the flooring is unique.
These side panels are all hand done and sound bounces off them.
The fabric is beautiful, very musical.
Ornate side panels.
There's a small church on the grounds.
Right around the corner is the Herzstein Memorial Plaza.
You enter through these gates.
Very Italian looking.
The plaza can be used for weddings or small gatherings.
This stairway really reminded me of Italy.
Interesting statue...a lion with boobies??
The church and chapel weren't open for viewing.
Next was lunch. We stopped in this little place back in Round Top. It looks like an old gas station.
When we went in, we didn't know it was also a pie place!
We thought it was a good idea to have reading glasses available for us old timers!
Lunch was delicious but the pies!!
Doug and I split a piece of cherry with Blue Bell ice cream, of course.
We walked around Round Top a bit more.
We stopped at Junk Gypsy just out of town.
And fields of wildflowers.
We stopped in Brenham at the Blue Bell Creameries.
The manufacturing process was already closed for the day but there was a very interesting area inside with the history of Blue Bell.
We took the elevator up to the ice cream parlor. It's cleverly disguised as barn doors.
All the flavors were on display.
The ice cream parlor is quite large.
You can sample any flavor and one generous scoop is $1.00.
That was a nice stop. It was time to head out of town.
We passed by a lot of the ranch gates.
I love seeing them.
I thought this was an interesting house with a big cowboy hat on top. Not sure what the boot is! Only in Texas!!
I can't even remember where we spent the night or what we had for dinner, but we drove on home the next day.
We loved Texas. There is so much to see and do there! I think another trip will be in our future.
This weekend is Blue Suede Cruise. Bob Pushee and Bob Wolfe have arrived and we will be tied up with that all weekend. Rain is predicted but we are hoping it will hold off and not spoil the weekend.
Doug made the newspaper!
Have a great weekend!
