The gardens were beautiful with every color of rose imaginable!
We got there about 9:00 and there were very few people there. It was very peaceful.
We stopped in Corsicana for a bite of lunch at Braum's. D.W. and Jane had eaten at one in Houston and highly recommended it. It's a burger/ice cream/market place. I think they are primarily in Texas and Oklahoma.
The burger was really good but the ice cream!!
Turtle sundae! Doug and I split this!
The market sells all kinds of things including their own brand of ice cream.
We saw a field of bluebonnets and pulled off to get some pictures. Doug and D.W. waited "patiently" while we tromped through the field.
They smelled wonderful!
D.W. wanted to find the truck stop that Willie Nelson owned. It was in Carl's Corner. It's now a Petro Station. Willie won this station in a poker game but then lost it to the IRS.
There's no evidence that Willie ever owned it. We were told that the Petro people removed anything related to Willie.
You know you're in Texas when you see the stars and longhorn skulls!
Carl's Corner, population 173.
At least we satisfied D.W.'s curiosity!
We then drove on to Waco to see the Silos! We saw the ALICO building that you see at the beginning of every Fixer Upper show.
I'm sure you've seen most of these things if you've watched the show.
The Magnolia is the shop. There are two stories but it wasn't as big as I expected it would be.
This is the side of the Baking Company.
There's nothing in these big silos.
Doug is checking prices and having a slight heart attack!
Doug and D.W. quickly tired and found a spot to sit.
Lots of food truck around the property and picnic tables to enjoy lunch.
The Baking Company always had a long line.
We did a little shopping in Magnolia and walked around a bit but it was late afternoon so we headed to the hotel. We met three other couples at the hotel, Jack and Sharon, Marie and Danny and Lajoy and John. We all went to George's for dinner.
We packed a lot into this day!
