We checked out of the hotel and walked down to the Corner Bakery Café for muffins and coffee.
We hopped in Amy's car and drove the short distance to Mt. Vernon, George Washington's home.
Just inside the building after purchasing tickets are these bronze statues of the Washingtons.
One of the buildings on the property overlooking the gardens. It is all very well maintained.
More buildings which house the slaves, shoemaker shop, blacksmith shop, etc.
This is actually the back of the "mansion."
We were able to tour the mansion but no pictures inside. The furnishings were very close to the original furnishings we were told.
This is the front of the mansion overlooking the Potomac River.
It says at the top "Within this enclosure rest the remains of Gen. George Washington. Martha is in a vault in there too.
Beautiful view with the farm animals in the background.
We took a little rest to enjoy the view.
Another view of the mansion.
We only had a little time to go through the museum but we HAD to see Washington's teeth!
We always were told they were made out of wood but this says otherwise.
We had a quick lunch at the food court on the grounds and enjoyed some ice cream too! Washington's nose had been rubbed a few times, just like Lincoln's nose at his tomb in Springfield.
It was time to say goodbye. Parting is such sweet sorrow!
And look who we ran into at the airport! Eric was heading out on business and stopped to say hi before we left.
It was such a fun trip. How fun it was to surprise Pat! Thanks to Amy for being such a good hostess and to Karen for planning such a perfect itinerary! It's so good to have sisters!
It was predicted that we might get snow today. Thankfully we didn't get any but it's still plenty cold! Hoping it passes us by. I really wish fall had lasted longer than two weeks!
