If you've never been to Door County, Wisconsin, you need to put that on your list of places you'd like to visit! I drove to Illinois a couple of weeks ago for a visit with my sister and friends, then my sister Pat, friend Sherry and I headed to Fond du Lac, WI where we spent the night with another friend Marilyn. After a hearty breakfast of southern biscuits and gravy prepared by Marilyn's sweet husband Jack, we headed to Door County.
Door County is at the top of the tiny peninsula surrounded by Green Bay on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. It has quaint little towns with cool names!
We got into Door County before lunch after a beautiful drive. We stopped at a few fun shops before having lunch.
We had lunch right on the harbor.
I had a bowl of seafood chowder which was delicious!
You won't find chain restaurants, Walmarts or a Walgreen's or CVS on every corner...in fact, you won't see any of them. No chain hotels either! It's so refreshing!
Lots of beautiful flowers and interesting buildings.
We stopped at Wilson's for ice cream. It's a "must" in Door County!
We all had the coconut joy which was like an almond joy and my goodness it was good! It was Sherry's recommendation and she knows her ice cream!
We sat across the street overlooking the water.
We checked into our hotel in Ephraim.
It was also right across the street from the water for a nice view.
We had a nice dinner at the Cookery in Fish Creek.
And called it a day! But what a fun one!
Doug and I went on our honeymoon 46 years ago to Door County. I doubt it's changed much since then. Pat and I were back for a short visit about 10 years ago. The nice thing about it is that it stays quaint and not commercial.
More tomorrow.
I've NEVER been to Door County!
