It's well known for having a grass roof and goats actually graze up there.
There was only one goat that we could spot that day but sometimes there are three or four. They pay no attention to the tourists gawking at them.
We go for the Swedish pancakes with lingonberries. Cheers!
These taste way better than photographed!
I had never visited Camp Zion a church camp in Ellison Bay that so many of my friends and their children attended. Pat's granddaughter Hanna has attended a couple of times. So good to see it after hearing so much about it.
We were fortunate that the man who takes care of the camp year around gave us a little tour of the camp. He used to be a youth pastor at the church but now lives in Door County and runs the camp. In the fall and winter they have retreats for adults and even have quilting retreats, etc.
The camp is quite hilly as you can see. The kids probably don't mind but it might kill me!
Beautiful views of Green Bay...it looks a whole lot like Lake Michigan, doesn't it?
The rest of the day was spent hitting the shops and farmer's markets. We stopped at Bea's.
Freshly made jellies and jams.
Actually these are three berry pies since cherries are out of season.
You can buy a jar of cherries for pie filling. I got a jar as cherry is Doug's favorite pie. Maybe one day I'll make it!
You can also buy frozen cherry pies to take home and bake.
Next stop was Seaquist Orchards.
The apple trees were loaded!
Here's my favorite thing to do with apples!
Lunch at Juniper's Gin Joint.
No gin but the burgers were good.
Back to shops and markets.
Lautenbach's was tasting heaven!
Even a wine tasting room which was free, unlike most places that charge at least $10 for three small tastes.
I bought a couple of bottles of sweet wine.
Dried cherries are delicious to eat or sprinkle on a salad.
Another market, more tasting!
They had all kinds of apples and samples for tasting. I had never heard of Sweetango apples but they are sweet and tart. I bought a bag of those and honey crisps, which has become a favorite.
I have since bought a bag of SweeTango at Walmart and they aren't as good as the fresh ones.
The coolest old garage and truck.
The curviest road!
This would be a most beautiful picture when the leaves were turning. We didn't see much color on our trip. We were a little early.
More quilt blocks.
A gorgeous house we fell in love with that had a great view of the water.
That pretty much wraps up our trip to Door County.
We came back with a packed car.
We left late afternoon, dropped Marilyn off in Fond du Lac, dropped Sherry off in Zion, and headed home to Antioch. We made a whole day of it and wished we'd had more time!
