We stopped in Charlevoix at the South Pier Light on Lake Michigan. We're now on the Lake Michigan side of Michigan.
We drove on to Traverse City. We saw lots of cherry orchards and some barn quilts along the way.
Traverse City is the cherry capital of the world. We sure did see a lot of cherry trees around there.
We had lunch in Traverse City, then on to Mission Point Lighthouse at the very tip of the peninsula.
This one looks a lot like an old schoolhouse or church to me.
You see that it sits right along the lake. Some lighthouses sit out into the lake and others seem a bit far from the water. They are all different. That's the beauty of them and what makes them so interesting.
On the way back down the peninsula we stopped at Harbor View Lavender Farm.
There was a cherry orchard there too.
The barns in the back were full of lavender drying. Smelled so good!
There was a small shop there that sold all things lavender including soaps, lotions, bunches of lavender, sachets and even lavender ice cream. Wish I had tried it!
We stopped in Empire at the Robert H. Manning Memorial Light.
This light was right on the beach. We could see the big sand dunes down the beach, part of Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Driving on south, we stopped in Frankfort and saw the Pt. Betsie Lighthouse.
Right on Lake Michigan.
We also made a stop at Frankfort Breakwater Light.
We made a stop at Kilwin's for ice cream. I had yummy toasted coconut and Doug had the Traverse City cherry.
We stopped for the night in Ludington at the Holiday Inn Express.
A busy day of driving and lighthouses but so much fun!
