It almost looks like a water tank.
The weather quickly cleared up and our next stop was in Presque Isle at the Presque Isle Lighthouse. It was built in 1870.
We saw one of the large ships passing by.
We stopped to see the old lighthouse from a distance. I've got a great zoom on my camera.
It was quite a walk down to see it so we just decided to admire it from a distance.
We also saw the range light.
The other range light has been turned into this private residence. How cool is that?
Next was the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse in Rogers City, right on Lake Huron.
This is the cute little gift shop.
We stopped in Cheboygan at Great Lakes Grill for a bite of lunch. The outside was a little questionable but the food was very good.
We then saw the Cheboygan River Front Range Lighthouse.
And the Cheboygan Crib Light.
We drove on to Mackinaw City and checked into the Comfort Inn which was right on the lake. Mackinaw City is at the very top of Michigan where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet.
We drove around the town and couldn't help but snap a picture of this big wiener! Doug wanted to eat there but we vetoed it! They probably had great hot dogs!
There are two lighthouses in Mackinaw City. First is McGulpin Point lighthouse.
Saw this beautiful light pink peony bush outside. Love that color. I love peonies but they don't do well in Mississippi, or at least for me.
This old croquet set was sitting outside of the lighthouse.
Next is the Old Mackinac Point Light. You can see the Mackinac Bridge way to the left in the picture.
We drove across the Mackinac Bridge to St. Ignace in the Upper Peninsula.
This is a 5 mile long suspension bridge...kinda scary!
We drove by the Wawatam Lighthouse in St. Ignace and I hopped out for a picture.
We drove back over the bridge to Mackinaw City and had dinner at the Dixie Saloon.
Another fun day!!
I'm enjoying your posts. I've only been to Michigan (UP) to ski when I was in High School. It was beautiful...but only saw the ski slopes and small towns were we stayed. I can't believe I lived so close all those years and never ventured much further North than Milwaukee. I would love to go in the Fall.
