Day 6, Greenfield Village

Greenfield Village is on the same property as the Henry Ford Museum.

It's a village that Henry Ford had built outside.  Some of the buildings were moved to this location and others were built as a reproduction.  We spent all afternoon there.  It was really an interesting place.

There were several restaurants there and we decided to eat in the cafeteria style restaurant.  We probably could have made a better choice but it was okay.

We posed at this fountain just inside the village.

Then hopped on the train around the village.

We got off halfway around the village and  started walking around looking at the interesting buildings.

These pictures are in no particular order.

Horse-drawn carriages and Model A's and T's.

The limestone cottage, Cotswold Cottage, below was originally built in England around 1620.  Henry Ford purchased it in 1929.  It was taken apart stone by stone and shipped to the United States and reassembled at its current location.

Robert Frost's home is below.  Inside was a recording in Frost's own voice of his poem The Road Not Taken.

Some of the homes had people in period costumes giving a little history of the home.

Doug and Dave taking a little rest.  They quickly tired of going in all the houses and all the walking.

Below is Noah Webster's home.

Interesting windmill.

Ackley Covered Bridge, built in 1832 in southwestern Pennsylvania.  Moved to Greenfield Village in 1937.

Below is a replica of Edison's laboratory.

This house is the very first house that was electrically lit.  It was a boarding house for men who worked for Edison.

The post office.

We watched these two riding around the village.

Edison statue.  Edison and Ford were very good friends.

Strolling the village.

Pat and I stood in line to buy ice cream at this little place.  After getting my cone, I "tried" to step over that low black fence on the left, caught my foot in one of the rungs, and fell flat!  Fortunately I didn't get hurt but my cone was smashed!  Dave insisted that I have his.  Doug didn't get any or I'm sure he would have given me his!  So very thankful I didn't break anything!

Home where Henry Ford grew up.

 A little croquet.

Ford Motor Company...the early days.

We rode in this 1914 Model T and also a 1931 Model A.

Kinda fun!  A very fun day at Greenfield Village.

We drove to Ann Arbor where we stayed at the Fairfield Inn.  We had dinner at P. F. Chang's.  We all got something different and shared!  After dinner, we drove through the very spread out University of Michigan campus.
